IL.
Loren

Prisoner.
Yes

IL.
Take me to the beginning. Tell me what you see.

Prisoner.
I am in my house. It’s the day of the sea. I want to go to the city to see the festival, but my father won’t let me. He says we need to take a trip. We walk for a while – to a large house outside of town. The gatekeeper waves my father in. He won’t tell me what we’re doing. The inside of the house is amazing. I’ve never seen so many treasures. We make it to a large back room – it smells of meat and wine. There is a large man sitting at the back of the room. Father goes to talk to him. I can’t hear what they are saying – but the fat man keeps looking back at me. Father starts walking back toward me. He won’t look at me. He walks past me… he leaves me there… just leaves me. The guards prevent me from following him. There’s another man now. He came from a side room. He motions for the guards to follow. They shove me forward.

IL.
Who is this man?

Prisoner.
He is a bad man.

IL.
I see. Claudette – notes. The prisoner is in too young a state of mind to give useful information. Loren – take me forward. Open your mind – and take me where you don’t want to go.

Prisoner.
I’m on a table. There is a white orb above me – the light is almost blinding. The man is to my left – I can’t see what he’s working on. The fat man is to my right – he is watching me… I don’t like this next part. I don’t want to be here anymore.

IL.
Loren – you must continue. Tell me what they do.

Prisoner.
The man. He comes over to me. He has a device is in his hands. I have never seen anything like it. It almost looks like a spider – but made of metal. It has some fluid inside. He… he plants on my chest. It hurts so much…

IL.
Loren – you cannot feel what they are doing now. Tell me what happens.

Prisoner.
The device cuts into my chest. It draws my blood into a well. It mixes with the fluid. The fat man steps forward. He asks if it is ready. The other man shakes his head. He says it didn’t work. They argue. The room is going dark.

IL.
How long has it been Loren? How long have you been there?
Prisoner.
I don’t know. It must be years. Seasons have gone by. I… I couldn’t keep track.

IL.
The fat man – does he ever get what he wants?

Prisoner.
No. it never works. There’s something missing. They don’t need me anymore.

IL.
I see… and what do they do with you?

Prisoner.
They throw me away. They put me in a shed. There are other elves here. They are all dead. It smells.

IL.
How did you get away.

Prisoner.
I… can’t remember. There is a man. He finds me somehow. He takes me from that place.

IL.
And then?

Prisoner.
The man cares for me. Brings me back to health. I am strong again. He is teaching me to use a sword.

IL.
Who is this man?

Prisoner.
Adel Aslan.

IL.
Interesting. Adel Aslan is a wanted fugitive.

Prisoner.
He is a good man. For twenty years he will be father to me.
IL.
I see – and what causes you to part?

Prisoner.
We are in town. Father is picking up an order. I am sitting outside a pub. There are two men standing near me. They are talking – talking about a man on some island they had stopped at. A man who was butchering elves and eating them. I don’t think they notice me. They walk away eventually. I follow them. They stop in front of another man. He looks like my father. The three head toward the docks. My father comes up behind me. He drops his order when he sees the man. I never see him look so angry.

IL.
Who was the man?

Prisoner.
Ahmet Aslan – my father’s brother.

IL.
Continue.

Prisoner.
When we get home my father tells me about his brother. They were princes in the wasteland. One a famed swordsman, the other, a master orator. Together, they would have been unstoppable. But they had a disagreement. A woman. They were insatiably in love with her – the both of them. And as much as they loved her then, they now both hated each other.

IL.
I would hardly call them unstoppable. A pirate and a fugitive swordsman. Continue.

Prisoner.
I need to talk to the man. He knows where my torturer is.

IL.
Was the man on the island the same?

Prisoner.
I suspect so. I must find out. I go to Ahmet. I ask if he can tell me where he saw the man. He spits on my face. He tells me to shove off. I tell him I will do anything to find out. He says I do not have the mettle to be of any worth to him. I walk away. I go to the tavern. I don’t know what to do. I recognize a man who walks in. He was one of the crewmen talking about the island. There is another with him. I don’t not know who he is. I approach them. They won’t talk to me. Things escalate. We get into a fight. I best them. I throw them in a cart and take them back to their ship. I call out for Ahmet. He comes. When he sees the men he is outraged. He asks what I have done with his son. He tells me that he will never help me and that he will ensure no one else in port does either. I leave for home. I am lost again. I do not sleep that night. I am haunted by visions of my past. I must find him.

IL.
Where is this going?

Prisoner.
For the last week I have not slept. I am exhausted. I go to my father. He tries to console me – says that I should let the past go. I ask him if he has. He says he cannot. He cannot. He cannot let go. Ahmet cannot let go. I tell my father there is a way. There is something that Ahmet wants. My father looks disappointed in me. I remove his head.

IL.
Gods…

Prisoner.
I take the head to Ahmet. He is surprised. He holds the head for a while. He says that maybe I have the mettle after all. He offers to take me aboard his ship. But the island is a dream.
IL.
Do you make it to the island?

Prisoner.
Yes.

IL.
Take me there.
Prisoner.
We have just resolved an engagement with a merchant vessel. Our ship is damaged. Ahmet directs the helmsman to take use to the closest island. He says that the crew does not want to go to that island. Ahmet does not care. We arrive and set anchor. Ahmet goes with me to shore. He says that after ten years I have earned my keep. He says that I have a day. I leave him. I search the island. I find a house. There are skeletons around it. I go inside. No one has been here in years. I find a tome. Inside there is picture of the device. I read through it. He is closer, but still has not found what he is looking for.

IL.
What was he looking for?

Prisoner.
He is harvesting us… elves. He wants their longevity. He wants to live forever. There are no clues to where he has gone or if he is even alive. I am without a lead yet again. I return to the ship.

IL.
But that is not the last clue?

Prisoner.
No. We are at port. It is six years later. I hear of a new drug. It is supposed to grant longer life. Perhaps a clue. I cannot be sure – but have to find out. I leave the crew. They are no longer of use to me. I search for the drug. To learn more I must go further. I work as a dealer. I go from city to city. Most leads do not pan out. I feel that I am getting closer.

IL.
Decadem has been floating around illicit markets for almost seven years. You were searching all that time?

Prisoner.
Yes.

IL.
And what did your search accomplish?

Prisoner.
The source.
IL.
There have been authorities searching for the source of this drug since it first surfaced. Are you telling me you beat them to it?

Prisoner.
Yes. My travels eventually take me to Nuln. I encounter a halfling dealer with the purest sample I have seen yet. I befriend him and eventually he tells me that there is far more to the drug than longer life. There is a wizard in the undercity of Nuln. The drug is just a means to another more sinister end. It is fuelling a skaven war machine.

IL.
What you are saying is preposterous.

Prisoner.
The man. He is working with the rat men. They provide him his final ingredient – a green stone of some kind. He provides them a way to generate human currency to funnel into their operations. He is in the undercity… I saw him. He looks as though he hasn’t aged more than a decade.

IL.
You can be killed for spreading rumors such as this.

Prisoner.
You are a fool.

IL.
How dare you?

Prisoner.
Did you factor in how much you would need to compensate for my heritage when you prepared that serum? Or for my background?

IL.
What?

Prisoner.
Farewell interro
